The Minnesota Vikings are rolling along with a 6-1 record heading into Week 9 of the NFL season. More importantly, the middling Green Bay Packers leave the NFC North completely up for grabs.
On Tuesday, the Vikings officially pushed their chips towards the middle of the table.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported the Vikings landed a massive trade to upgrade at tight end, acquiring T.J. Hockenson from the Detroit Lions and keeping him in the NFC North.
The deal involves Minnesota sending a 2023 second-round pick and a 2024 third-round pick to the Lions for Hockenson, and both a 2023 fourth-round pick and conditional 2024 fourth-round pick.
Hockenson is one of the most talented pass-catching tight end threats in football. The fourth-year pro was selected No. 8 overall in 2019 and ranks second on the Lions with 43 targets for 26 receptions, 395 yards and 3 TDs.
Irv Smith Jr. continued to produce mediocre results upon his healthy return, and the Vikings learned Monday their young tight end could be out weeks with a high ankle sprain.
For now, the Vikings hold +1600 odds to win Super Bowl 57 on FanDuel Sportsbook.
