Minnesota Vikings fans have been holding their breath ever since Dalvin Cook was carted off the field during the third quarter of a Week 12 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Unfortunately, Monday morning's update does not come with good news. Cook has suffered a dislocated shoulder and is expected to miss some time.

Dalvin Cook Injury Update

Cook will undergo an MRI today to determine the extent of the damage, but the Pro Bowler is banged up to say the least. A dislocated shoulder can sometimes lead to a torn labrum, which is the issue Cook is currently dealing with on his other shoulder. Keep in mind he has already missed two games this season.

It's safe to say Cook's health is vital to the Vikings' hopes of making the playoffs. The fifth-year pro has been a workhorse for this offense out of the backfield averaging 108.3 total yards per game as well as a reliable 4.5 yards per carry. Overall, Cook has scored 4 touchdowns across 9 games played.

Minnesota currently owns the final NFC Wild Card spot and will call upon backup Alexander Mattison to carry the load until Cook is ready to return. Mattison has racked up 225 rushing yards and 51 carries and hauled in 13 receptions for 99 yards during his two starts this year (Weeks 3 & 5).

More updates about Cook and his recovery timeline should be released throughout the upcoming week. For now, Minnesota looks toward Week 13 and a divisional matchup against the Detroit Lions. The Vikings head into that game as 7-point road favorites, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
