Much of the focus during the San Francisco 49ers' training camp has been on Trey Lance's passing. He certainly has a ways to go in terms of his accuracy, but his deep-ball potential is already apparent.
Lance showed off his arm strength with a bomb to Danny Gray in joint practices against the Minnesota Vikings on Wednesday.
Lance's pass travelled 50 yards in the air and hit the open Gray, who burned veteran cornerback Patrick Peterson on the play. The wideout hauled it in and took it to the house for a 65-yard score.
Though the throw was pretty, Gray had to slow down to catch it. So Lance still has room to get even better on his deep throws, which should make opposing teams very scared if he hits his full potential.
Overall, Lance finished 11-of-17 on passing attempts for the day. He was praised for a couple of long completions to Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk during Wednesday's practice as well, which is exactly what fans what to see.
Lance kicked off the preseason with 92 passing yards and 1 TD against the Green Bay Packers. It remains to be see how much he plays during Saturday's contest against Minnesota.
