Sometimes, less is more, but I don't think FOX realized that when they created their new NFL intro in 2004 with "Jack the Ripster."

This is downright atrocious, not to mention scary by the end of it. The first questions that come to mind are, "who authorized this?" "Why would anyone think this is a good idea?" And "is this the best they could come up with, really?"

They probably should have just stopped the intro after the time and place openers. At least those first 15 seconds provided a small ounce of drama. Then we join Jack Ripplemeyer in his "kingdom" where he's got beer and snacks, which you suppose is some generalized attempt at connecting with the typical viewer, and don't forget how much he loves football. He only tells you half a dozen times.

It doesn't help that the CGI from this era looks ridiculous. The Ripster is hard to watch, with his massive clay-looking mouth that spews nothing but useless garbage throughout. And who decided the nickname Ripster was the winner?

There are so many things wrong with this NFL intro by FOX, and so little that they actually got right. Let's all just be grateful that the media giant has since learned from the error in its old ways.
