The San Francisco Giants' infield has faced some early tests with Evan Longoria and Tommy La Stella yet to make their 2022 debuts and Brandon Belt currently on the COVID list. In order to shore up their depth, San Francisco made a recent trade with the Seattle Mariners for prospect Kevin Padlo.
The 25-year-old is sure to catch the Giants' attention after he had a three-home run day in Triple-A on Sunday.
Kevin Padlo Trade
The corner infielder raked against the Albuquerque Isotopes, homering in the first, fifth and sixth innings. He finished the day with 6 RBI and 4 runs scored in five at-bats.
It appears this recent trade has lit a fire under the former fifth-round pick. He struggled in his first 15 games for the Mariners' Triple-A affiliate this season, slashing just .173/.318/.327 with 2 HR and 5 RBI.
Over his first four games part of the Giants' organization, though, he's racked up 4 HR and 9 RBI while slashing .412/.500/1.118.
If Padlo can keep it up, he'll make it hard for Gabe Kapler to resist bringing him up to the Show to see what's got. It's clear the lone hit Padlo recorded in the majors in 2021 doesn't showcase the potential he has as a slugger.
