The Atlanta Falcons certainly haven't gotten off to the start of their 2020 season that neither fans nor the organization had hoped for. After the Falcons rattled off six of their last eight games to finish the 2019 season at 7-9, the team seemed to be moving in the right direction ahead of 2020.

However, fast forward two months into the season, and multiple blown leads held in the fourth quarter have really derailed the team's high hopes. Perhaps none were more gut-wrenching than their most recent loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 7 either.

And this clip released from the game makes that pain even worse.

Trailing 14-13 with a little more than a minute remaining, the Falcons managed a 3rd down with a first-down marker standing between them and the end zone. All they needed to do was get the first down and get down before scoring to ensure the clock could run out and kick a game-winning field goal. Matt Ryan knew this, and he stressed to Todd Gurley how important it was that he not score a touchdown.

Unfortunately, the action didn't match the plan after Gurley was released by a Lions' defender in front of the goal line, and he couldn't keep himself out of the end zone. A little more than 60 seconds later, the Lions ended up winning the game on the final play with a touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford.

While it's hard to say just how much control of his momentum Gurley had immediately after being released by a Lions defender who had hit him head on, it's just tough to watch the conversation about staying out of the end zone beforehand. Especially from a player that has shown the capability to follow this exact direction before in his career.
