A 17-13 Week 16 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday has the Denver Broncos on the verge of missing the postseason for the sixth straight season. Naturally, fans and experts are wondering what another year without playoffs would mean for head coach Vic Fangio's future with the franchise.

Fangio — who's in the third year of his four-year contract — told reporters Monday that he isn't thinking about the future of his job. He added that he plans to be back for his fourth season even if the Broncos don't pick up his fifth-year option.

Even though Fangio isn't thinking about his future, he did acknowledge that the possibility of him being let go is a real one.

"For a lot of reasons, I do not worry about [being fired]. Do I acknowledge that it's out there and could happen? Absolutely."

Ever since arriving in Denver in 2019, Fangio's tenure as the Broncos' bench boss has left a lot to be desired. The team finished below .500 in each of his first two seasons and is currently on pace for it to happen for a third straight year.

With a talented roster loaded with promising young players, the 2021 NFL season was supposed to be a big one for Denver. While the defense has been one of the top units in the league, the Broncos offense has averaged just 19.9 points per game — 10th-worst league-wide.

If Fangio can't turn things around as soon as possible and make the playoffs, there could be big changes coming in Denver over the offseason.

The Broncos will look to keep their postseason hopes alive with a Week 17 divisional matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. It's not looking promising for the Broncos, with FanDuel Sportsbook listing the Chargers as 6-point home favorites.
