Twins Demote Surprising Player Ahead of Carlos Correa's Return

The Minnesota Twins are expected to activate star shortstop Carlos Correa off of the injured list on Wednesday, allowing the 27-year-old to suit up for the first time since May 5. Getting him back is a plus for this team after going 6-5 in his absence, but it'll also require Minnesota to open up a roster spot.
The Twins have decided to demote a surprising player to make room for Correa on the active roster.

Royce Lewis News
Red-hot shortstop Royce Lewis is being sent back down to Triple-A ahead of Correa's return. It makes sense since Correa will take over starting SS duties once he's back, but the decision to demote Lewis after his recent play has left some scratching their heads.
The former No. 1 overall pick showcased why he's one of the top prospects in baseball, slashing .308/.325/.564 across 39 at-bats. He racked up 2 home runs, 4 doubles and 5 RBIs while striking out just five times in 11 games.
Given the Twins are tied for the ninth-fewest RBIs (134) this season, it's clear how much the team could use Lewis' penchant for notching extra-base hits and driving in runs.
It appears Minnesota could be angling for Lewis to return sooner rather than later, though. He's slated to get reps at non-shortstop positions during this Triple-A stint, which would allow him to come back in a utility role if he catches on in other areas quickly.
MLB odds on FanDuel Sportsbook favor Minnesota (-162) to beat the Oakland Athletics in Correa's return on Wednesday.
