The 2021 MLB season hasn't been one to remember for the Colorado Rockies. After dealing away a pair of superstars in Nolan Arenado and DJ LeMahieu in the past couple of years, it looks like this franchise is heading towards a total reset. Colorado even had their general manager, Jeff Bridich, resign in just the first month of the year.
Currently, the Rockies sit 9.5 games back in the NL West with a dismal 14-24 record. And, we all know that part of a full rebuild is dealing away the rest of your major franchise players. One name that keeps coming up in recent weeks is two-time All-Star shortstop Trevor Story.
Story, a career .277/.343/.531 hitter that averages 35 home runs and 100 RBIs every year is next up on this list to be dealt. The 28-year-old shortstop approaches unrestricted free agency after the season and Colorado knows it's time to get something in return for him now before he walks away next year.

3. Milwaukee Brewers
The Milwaukee Brewers are off to a solid start in 2021 with a 20-18 overall record. They trail the NL Central division-leading St. Louis Cardinals by just two games. This solid start has persevered through a number of key injuries, including one to superstar Christian Yelich, and a dismal offense. The Brewers have the fifth worst offense in the league with just 3.66 runs per game. Luis Urias isn't a long-term option at shortstop - he's hitting just .206 and slugging below .350 with three home runs in 107 at-bats. Story may boost this offense into a serious World Series contender.
2. New York Yankees
Are we about to witness a reunion between Story and LeMahieu with the New York Yankees? Most fans will probably groan at this, but it doesn't mean it won't happen. The Yankees offense still shockingly ranks in the bottom-10 with 3.86 runs per game. New York is always eyeing a championship and not shy from making a blockbuster deal to help make that happen. The Yankees' farm system is ripe enough for this deal, however, there's a log jam of infielders on the roster already with Gleyber Torres at shortstop, LeMahieu at 2B, Luke Voit at 1B, and Gio Urshela at 3B.
1. Oakland Athletics
The Oakland Athletics could be the best potential trade destination for Story. Oakland is another team off to a terrific start, sitting in first place with a 23-16 record. The offense is also bottom-10 with 4.05 runs scored per game and this team has mainly been winning games with the pitching staff. Still, could the prospect of adding Story to this offense keep this team playing in Oakland? Elvis Andrus, the A's current shortstop, has been awful this season and hitting below .200 on the year. Oakland is still the favorite to win the AL West with +115 odds, according to the latest MLB odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
