Super Bowl 55 featured a battle between two of the best tight ends in the NFL in Kansas City Chief Travis Kelce and Tampa Bay Buccaneer Rob Gronkowski. Well, it looks like there may be a little bit of bad blood between the two as Kelce snubbed Gronkowski from his list of top tight ends in the game.
Kelce was recently asked to name his top five tight ends in the game and he included George Kittle, Darren Waller, Zach Ertz, Mark Andrews and Mike Gesicki. He failed to mention Gronkowski, a player that ranks No. 6 all-time amongst tight ends in career receiving yards (8,484).
Travis Kelce Rob Gronkowski
It's best to not jump to any conclusions here, but it would be interesting to hear why Kelce didn't include the four-time All-Pro on his list. Gronkowski bounced back with a great season in 2020 hauling in 45 of his 77 targets for 623 yards and 7 touchdowns. He also earned his fourth Super Bowl ring.
Now, Kelce is arguably the most well-rounded player at the position right now and knows what he is talking about. The 31-year-old ranked first among tight ends last year with a career-high 1,416 yards. He also came in tied for first with 11 receiving touchdowns and ranked second in receptions (105).
It's safe to say Kelce's answer would've been much different if the list involved ranking the greatest tight ends of all-time. However, Gronkowski cannot be overlooked even in today's game as he remains one of the most dynamic players at the tight end position.
