The MLB's trade deadline is less than a week away, and the rumor mill is beginning to heat up. The Philadelphia Phillies are one potential buyer, sitting just 0.5-games back in the NL Wild Card race. Adding a key piece or two could help push this team over the top for playoff baseball.
MLB insider Ken Rosenthal recently discussed some notes ahead of Tuesday's deadline, indicating the Phillies are in the market for a center fielder, specifically checking in on a young member of the Houston Astros.
Phillies Trade Rumors
Rosenthal said "a number of teams" including the Phillies are interested in 27-year-old Jose Siri.
Siri fits a glaring need for Philadelphia. Phillies' center fielders rank just 26th in batting average and 29th in on-base percentage.
While Siri's 2022 stats may not jump off the page (.178/.238/.304 slash line), he enjoyed a stretch of really nice baseball during 21 games a year ago. This included a .304/.347/.609 slash line and four home runs across 49 plate appearances.
Perhaps a change of scenery can help Siri find his footing at the plate, but he's a valuable defender who can play all three outfield spots.
Phillies fans will pay close attention to any moves the franchise makes in the coming days. For now, the Phillies hold +5000 odds to win the 2022 World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook.
