The New York Mets are averaging an impressive 4.82 runs per game this season (No. 4 in MLB), yet have only tallied 71 home runs as a team (T-No. 20 in MLB). Adding a powerful bat to the lineup at the trade deadline has become a priority and the Mets have already been linked to a veteran first baseman.

New York Mets Trade Rumors

MLB insider Jon Heyman reports that the Mets are one of the teams interested in acquiring Trey Mancini of the Baltimore Orioles. The 2021 AL Comeback Player of the Year could reunite with manager Buck Showalter, who he played under during his first three years in the league.

Mancini is going to be a popular name at the deadline given his ability to play first base, left field or right field. That positional versatility would fit in well alongside Jeff McNeil. It also helps that his 2023 mutual option comes with a very affordable $250,000 buyout.

The 30-year-old slugger is enjoying another solid season at the plate, slashing .280/.356/.421 through 68 games. Mancini has racked up 30 runs scored, 7 home runs and 30 RBI as well. Sliding him into the designated hitter role over JD Davis (.243 BA) would be an immediate upgrade for the Mets.

Heyman also linked New York to Josh Bell of the Washington Nationals and Andrew Benintendi of the Kansas City Royals. For now, the Mets will look to keep building on their NL East lead and have the fourth-best odds to win the World Series at +700, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
