Two-way sports stars have become even more of a trend in the modern era. It's not out the ordinary for a player to have a secondary sport that complements their main sport in high school. Such is the case of Bubba Chandler, who is a three-star quarterback recuit committed to Clemson for the 2021 season. However, he also was also a highly regarded baseball prospect heading into the 2021 MLB Draft.
The Pittsburgh Pirates appear to be high on Chandler, using the No. 72 overall pick in the draft to nab the two-way standout and put his football career in jeopardy.
Bubba Chandler MLB Draft
Pittsburgh is investing a lot in Chandler with such a high selection in the third round, and the potential to make money as a professional right away may be tempting for the 18-year-old.
He's a solid QB prospect, but it's clear his abilities on the diamond may be his best bet at a future pro career. Chandler is already reportedly hitting the mid-to-high 90s with his fastball, and some scouts believe he could have potential as a shortstop at the next level as well.
If Chandler's preference lies with baseball, Clemson may be kicked to the curb. One thing going for the Tigers is that Chandler decommitted from a baseball offer at Georgia for a football/baseball scholarship at Clemson. Perhaps the dream of one day being QB1 for an elite school will be enough to sway him to stick around.
