Sitting at the bottom of the AL West with a 41-75 record, the Oakland Athletics don't have much left to play for in 2022. Instead, the A's plan on using the remainder of the MLB campaign to have a look at some of their young players, including top prospect Shea Langeliers.

The Athletics announced on Tuesday that the highly-touted catcher, along with veteran infielder David MacKinnon, has been promoted from Triple-A Las Vegas. The move comes after outfielder Ramón Laureano was placed on the injured reserve while Stephen Piscotty was released.

Athletics Roster Moves

Athletics fans have been waiting for Langeliers' MLB debut for quite some time. The Portland, Oregon, native was selected ninth overall by the A's at the 2019 MLB Draft and even opened up the 2022 campaign as Baseball America's No. 54-ranked prospect across all 30 clubs.

The former Baylor product has been living up to the hype with the Aviators so far this Triple-A season. Langeliers is currently Las Vegas' leader in bother home runs (19) and RBIs (56) while slashing .283/.366/.510 through 353 at-bats. His 180 total bases are 52 more than the next player and he also has a .988 field percentage behind home plate.

Langeliers likely won't usurp Sean Murphy for the starting catcher position, but he could see some time as the designated hitter — an area that the A's haven't seen much offensive production from this season.

Athletics vs Rangers Odds (Aug. 16)

Athletics fans will be tuning into Tuesday's game against the Texas Rangers to see if Langeliers makes his MLB debut. Oakland could use his help now that FanDuel Sportsbook is listing the A's as +110 underdogs while the Rangers are favored to win at -130.
