It isn't often we see trades in the NFL as major and impactful as the recent one between the Los Angeles Rams and the Detroit Lions. Quarterback Jared Goff and a number of draft picks were shipped off to the Lions in return for quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Former teammate and Rams' running back Todd Gurley made sure to come to the defense of Goff in resounding fashion.

Gurley knows the feeling of being unwanted by the Rams as he was cut from the team just last offseason before he ended up signing a one-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons.

In his time as the Rams' starting quarterback, Goff threw for 18,171 yards and 107 touchdowns over the course of five seasons. He also led the Rams to three playoff appearances including the season in which the team lost to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LIII. We'll see how Goff plays for his new team next season with likely a lot of newfound motivation.

While Goff starts anew in Detroit, Gurley just finished up a solid season with the Falcons in which he rushed for 678 and 9 touchdowns in 15 games started for the team. He nows enters the 221 offseason as a free agent looking for a new city and team to play for.

Maybe Gurley reunites with Goff and ends up signing with the Lions, who knows? For now, it is just great to see one former teammate stand up for another in a time where there is a lot of criticism and question marks surrounding Goff.
