As the Tennessee Titans prepare for their Week 8 game against the Houston Texans, starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill continues to deal with an illness that kept him out of walkthrough on Saturday. While it's disappointing for the Titans to be without their starting quarterback, especially in the midst of a four-game winning streak, it provides a great opportunity for both the team and rookie QB Malik Willis.

Ryan Tannehill Injury Update

Tannehill was scratched officially on Saturday afternoon and will not be traveling with the team to Houston.

Tannehill has had an up-and-down season, throwing for 1,097 yards, 6 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. While he has played well for the Titans over the years, it's clear he's not the quarterback of the future, Willis is.

Malik Willis First Start

We have seen Willis in very limited action so far this season after being a Round 3 selection out of Liberty in the 2022 NFL Draft, but Sunday will provide the team the first look at him really running the show. Luckily, he draws an easier opponent. The Texans sit at 1-4-1 and in last place in the AFC South. Additionally, Houston surrenders 22.8 points per game so far this season, which ranks 20th in the NFL.

So Willis will get an easier matchup for his first start and doesn't have the pressure of this being a full takeover of the team, likely just being a one-start thing. That is unless he completely blows everyone away, then let the quarterback controversy begin.

The Titans are 1-point road favorites against the Texans in Week 8, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's latest NFL odds. Although that line could change if and when Willis is officially named as the starter for Sunday.
