Tigers News: Free Agent Signing Designated for Assignment
By Larry Rupp

The MLB season has been underway for a few weeks now and teams are starting to get reads on how their players are performing so far. Well, that isn't always a good thing as Renato Nunez' slow start has caused him to be designated for assignment by the Detroit Tigers.
Nunez was a decent free agent signing this past offseason and was slotted to be the team's first baseman heading into the season. However, he went just 4-27 (.148) with 2 home runs during his time with the Tigers and didn't bring enough production to the team to warrant a roster spot any longer.

Renato Nunez DFA
It is possible Nunez remains in the Detroit organization given he is outrighted to the minor leagues, yet many times experienced players like him opt to enter free agency instead. He could be a sneaky pickup for a contending team and provide some power off the bench.
Nunez' last two seasons (2019 & 2020) have been the best of his career as he has hit 43 home runs, racked up 121 RBI and scored 101 runs during that span as a part of the Baltimore Orioles.
Overall, it shouldn't be long until Nunez finds a new MLB team to call home. The Tigers will look to continue running a platoon at first base with Harold Castro (.375 OBP) and Jonathan Schoop (6 runs scored). Detroit currently have a 6-10 record on the season.
