It's already been a busy offseason for the Detroit Tigers as they gear up for the 2023 campaign. The coaching staff and front office have undergone a slew of changes following the team's disappointing 66-96 finish this past season.
Now Detroit is making another adjustment to its staff.
University of Iowa pitching coach Robin Lund is being hired by the Tigers as their new assistant PC, according to Kendall Rogers of D1 Baseball. He'll now join Chris Fetter and fellow assistant Juan Nieves on this revamped staff.
Lund has spent the last five seasons with the Hawkeyes, playing a major role in shaping a pitching group that was one of the nation's best this past year. Iowa ranked fourth in ERA and third in strikeouts per nine innings in 2022, which fueled a 36-win campaign.
Lund has earned major praise for his work with South Dakota State transfer Adam Mazur, who won Big Ten Pitcher of the Year this past season. Mazur was a second-round pick during the 2022 MLB Draft, continuing a strong pipeline of Iowa pitching talent heading to the pros. Seven Hawkeyes have landed with MLB organizations over the last two seasons under Lund.
Lund's familiarity with Fetter and ability to develop pro-level talent should be a major boost to Detroit's coaching talent in 2023.
