The Detroit Tigers struggled mightily in 2022. Detroit capped off a 96-loss season en route to a fourth place finish in the AL Central.
But there's renewed hope as the MLB offseason gets into full swing. Thursday marks the beginning of free agency, although that's far from the only transactions going down. Detroit recently claimed infield depth off waivers from the Texas Rangers.
The Tigers claimed Andy Ibanez on Thursday afternoon. Ibanez opened the year as the Rangers starting third baseman before his performance faltered and ultimately returned to Triple-A.
Ibanez owns a career slash line of .258/.306/.384 across 116 games. He's played more than 500 games in the minor leagues and is known for his bat-to-ball skills.
