Devin Bush is coming off a remarkably impressive rookie campaign. In fact, he became one of just nine linebackers in NFL history to have racked up at least 109 total tackles, 9 tackles for loss and 2 interceptions as a rookie. That put him in some elite company, alongside names like Brian Urlacher, Luke Kuechly and Bobby Wagner.
Still, it appears the Pittsburgh Steelers could be asking even more of Bush in 2020. The team is incredibly thin at inside linebacker outside of Vince Williams and Bush. And according to this quote, it seems as if the Michigan product is acutely aware of that reality.
While Steelers' fans certainly love Bush's confidence, the team could be in serious trouble if he misses time due to injury.
Mark Barron is gone, and while he wasn't great last season, he did play 69 percent of the team's snaps and finished fourth on Steelers in tackles. Vince Williams, who will likely slot in as the starter alongside Bush, only played 37 percent of the snaps in 2019. And there aren't many proven options behind the two, as the Steelers didn't address the position in the offseason.
If anyone is capable of a Herculean performance in Pittsburgh, it's likely Bush, but the team would be wise to add an insurance policy or two at ILB.
