The Cowboys Should Trade This Player While They Still Can

The Dallas Cowboys are consistently in the running for the top spot in the NFC East, but they haven't managed to win the division in back-to-back seasons since the '90s. To find that kind of sustained success, they need to continue building with a long-term outlook.

That's why trading Chidobe Awuzie would make a ton of sense.

It may seem strange to trade a corner after already losing Byron Jones to free agency, but moving Awuzie now could help prevent a similar situation next offseason, as he's set to become an unrestricted free agent.

Even after losing Jones, the Cowboys aren't exactly thin at corner this season either. Maurice Canaday's 71.5 overall grade from Pro Football Focus ranked 25th among 115 qualifying corners in 2019, and Daryl Worley was around average at 60th. Dallas also, of course, spent a second-round pick on Alabama corner Trevon Diggs.

A second-round pick in 2017, even with just one year left on his deal Awuzie should command a solid return in a trade.

It might seem crazy to trade a starter when you're hoping to be in Super Bowl contention, but moving Awuzie would be a savvy long-term move for the Cowboys.
