Texans Projected to Address Major Need in Mel Kiper's First 2022 NFL Mock Draft

It's safe to say that the 2021 NFL season was another disappointing one for the Houston Texans. They finished toward the bottom of the AFC South with a 4-13 record, yet there is reason for hope. Nailing their first-round pick in the upcoming draft would go a long way in improving the roster.
NFL analyst Mel Kiper projects the Texans to address a major need in his first 2022 mock draft. He has Houston slated as the landing spot for Alabama offensive lineman Evan Neal at No. 3 overall.
Texans Mock Draft
Neal is highly regarded as the most NFL-ready lineman in this draft class. He played both guard and tackle with the Crimson Tide and has the size (6-foot-7, 350 pounds) to take on even the biggest defensive linemen. Keep in mind Neal allowed just 25 pressures across his final two college seasons.
The 21-year-old standout was also named a consensus All-American this past fall. Neal's ability to move defenders off the line of scrimmage gives him a shot to start from day one at the next level. Simply put, he has all the intangibles of a lineman that can play in the NFL for a decade or more.
This may seem like a safe pick, but Houston's offensive line has been horrible. The Texans scored the third-fewest offensive points per game in the NFL this season (15.5). They also averaged a league-worst 15.6 first downs per game and 83.9 rushing yards per game. Simply put, nothing worked.
Getting some help for young starter Davis Mills should be a top priority for the Texans this offseason. We'll see if they decide to do that through the NFL Draft when it kicks off on Thursday, April 28.
