Late in the third quarter, QB Alex Smith threw an interception, and Cowboys linebacker Jaylon Smith had what appeared to be an easy pick-6 in his sights. But McLaurin did his best D.K. Metcalf impression and chased Smith down, preventing a touchdown. The receiver gave an amazing quote about his thinking on the crucial play.
McLaurin's tackle proved to be bigger than anyone thought. Washington held the Cowboys to a field goal following the tackle, which allowed Washington to maintain a slight 20-16 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Then they scored 21 unanswered points, routing the Cowboys 41-16 in their Thanksgiving matchup.
That's what you gotta do when you're a leader on the team. You just gotta ... never give up on any plays because you never know what can happen. That ended up being a big play for us. We preach that in our wide receiver room to play through every single play, and you never know what's going to happen. I'm glad it worked out for us.- Terry McLaurin
McLaurin's hustle was not only an impressive athletic display, but it also helped his team earn a critical win. Washington now owns a 4-7 record after their victory over Dallas, putting them in first place in the NFC East. The Cowboys now sit at the bottom of the division at 3-8.
We might look back at McLaurin's play as not only something that helped win Washington a game, but possibly the division.
