Tedy Bruschi was a hard-hitting linebacker for the New England Patriots. But now he appears to be an even harder-hitting analyst.

Following reports that Matthew Stafford told the Detroit Lions he was okay playing anywhere other than New England, Bruschi wasted no time clapping back at the new Los Angeles Rams QB. Check out what Bruschi said while appearing on Ordway, Merloni & Fauria.

He’s not tough enough to play here. He’s just not tough enough... I don’t think he’s tough enough to be coached hard. Do you realize the mental toughness that Tom Brady had to have for 20 years to deal with Bill Belichick and that type of coaching? I mean, constant pressure every single day. Does Stafford sort of grab you as a guy who could handle that? I just don’t think so.

While Stafford's occasionally underwhelming production has been criticized in the past, his toughness is almost never brought into question. This guy seems to play through a brutal, devastating injury every single season.

Of course, Bruschi was criticizing Stafford's mental toughness. But you obviously need a pretty high degree of mental toughness to play through the injuries that Stafford has. And then there's the fact that Stafford was the Detroit Lions' franchise quarterback for 12 seasons. You have to think that builds character.

In all likelihood, Bruschi was just standing up for the franchise he loves. But criticizing Stafford's toughness was a strange way of doing it.
