The Chicago Bears came up short at home against the New Orleans Saints in Week 7, but there was still positive takeaways for the fantasy owners of running back Tarik Cohen, who saw an expanded workload in the loss.
It has become clear that Cohen's usage increases when the Bears are trailing in a game, but it was surprising to see the speedster carry the football more than rookie David Montgomery. Now, it wasn't an impressive amount of carries, with Cohen getting three to Montgomery's two, but the backfield snaps brings optimism.
Operating mostly as a receiver this season, Cohen did not have much upside as a true running back. However, he ran a season-high 27 backfield snaps in Week 7, compared to Montgomery's 28, which brings optimism that Cohen could see more carries going forward.
Cohen still did most of his damage as a receiver, lining up as a receiver on eight plays and seeing 12 targets, which was second only to Allen Robinson. This workload through the air makes him especially valuable in PPR leagues.
While Cohen (and the Bears in general) didn't turn in huge production, the way Chicago used Cohen in Week 7 opens the door for big performances down the road.
