The NHL playoffs start this week, which means that the quest for the Cup can finally begin in earnest.

There are 16 teams left who can actually take home the hardware with the reigning champion Washington Capitals back in the playoffs as the No. 1 seed out of the Metropolitan Division. However the Caps aren't the favorites this year. The East features an even bigger juggernaut than Washington.

The Tampa Bay Lightning (+195) have the best odds to win the Stanley Cup on FanDuel Sportsbook. They are the No. 1 seed out of the Atlantic Division and ran away with the President's Trophy with 62 wins and 128 points. The Lightning finished just four points short of the all-time record of 132 points set by the 76-77' Canadiens.

The two closest teams to Tampa Bay are the Calgary Flames at +850 and the Boston Bruins at +950 on FanDuel Sportsbook. The group below the favorites features both teams from last year's Stanley Cup Final as the Washington Capitals are +1400 and the Las Vegas Golden Knights are +1600. Alongside them are the San Jose Sharks at +1200, Nashville Predators at +1500 and Pittsburgh Penguins at +1700.

Surprise 2018 conference finalists the Winnipeg Jets are at +1900 and the Columbus Blue Jackets are the highest Wild Card team at +2000 despite having to play Tampa Bay in the first round. The last three non-Wild Card teams fill out the odds below the Blue Jackets as the St. Louis Blues are +2000, the Toronto Maple Leafs are +2200 and the Islanders are +2300 after making the playoffs for the first time since 2015-16.

The other three Wild Card teams come in at the bottom of the odds as the Colorado Avalanche and Dallas Stars are both +2600 and the Carolina Hurricanes are +2900.

It seems like the path is set for the Lightning to win their second ever Cup, but the last five President's Trophy winners haven't made the Final, let alone won, so there's no telling what might happen. Two years ago a Wild Card team (Nashville Predators) made it all the way to the Final, so the NHL Playoffs are certifiably insane at times. The Lightning are deservedly the favorites right now, but nothing will be decided until all these teams take the ice.
