The New York Mets are off to a hot start to the season (13-5 record) and continue to lean on a pitching staff that owns the fourth-best ERA in baseball (2.74). It's a rotation that could be getting a boost this weekend with starter Taijuan Walker expected to make his return on Saturday afternoon.

Taijuan Walker Injury Update

Walker has been sidelined since the fifth game of the season due to right shoulder bursitis, but took part in a simulated game in St. Louis on Monday. The 29-year-old's shoulder held up after tossing 64 pitches and all signs point to him taking the mound against the Philadelphia Phillies this weekend.

Some fastballs were coming in between 92 and 94 mph, which goes to show that Walker's velocity hasn't suffered too much. Since being placed on the injured list back on April 12, the veteran starter has also taken part in an extended spring training game and various pitching workouts.

Of course, Walker threw 2.0 clean innings of work against the Phillies in his only start of the season on April 11 and racked up 4 strikeouts. The Mets are hoping he can build off that momentum following an All-Star 2021 season. Walker posted a 7-11 record to go along with a 4.47 ERA across 25 starts.

Keep an eye on Walker's status throughout the rest of the week considering it could still change. It's possible he only misses two turns in the rotation, though. That is big news for a Mets team that has the second-best odds to win the World Series at +750, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
