A blockbuster deal that sent quarterback Russell Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks to the Denver Broncos shocked the NFL world this past offseason. Stories have been emerging for months now about what exactly led to the trade, but fans will be surprised to hear the latest detail in particular.

Seattle Seahawks News

Seahawks general manager John Schneider was fielding calls from a few teams, including the Washington Commanders, New York Giants and New Orleans Saints. However, he knew the entire time that Denver was the preferred landing spot for everyone involved, including Wilson himself.

That is because Drew Lock was the QB that Schneider "wanted in return." He met with Broncos GM George Paton at the Senior Bowl in February and again at the NFL scouting combine in March. A trade was completed one week later and Schneider now has the young developmental QB he craved.

The only problem is that Lock is not the Week 1 starting QB for Seattle--veteran Geno Smith is. Lock struggled to impress during the preseason, completing 24 of his 39 pass attempts for 273 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. Meanwhile, Smith's familiarity running the Seahawks' offense ended up being the difference here.

Schneider has built a reputation for never leaving a stone unturned in player evaluation and even attended the pro days of Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen a few years ago. It drove a wedge between him and Wilson's camp--a wedge that eventually drove the Super Bowl champion right out of town.

For now, Seattle has odds set at +15000 to win Super Bowl 57, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
