With the 2021 season behind us, the Pittsburgh Steelers are gearing up towards the offseason and the excitement of the NFL Draft. Pittsburgh must begin planning for life after Ben Roethlisberger, and that's exactly what NFL insider Todd McShay projects them to do in his latest mock draft.

McShay's first 2022 mock draft also saw Pittsburgh addressing this need, but he predicts things shaking out a little more dramatically, in the form of a draft-day trade.

Steelers Mock Draft

Pittsburgh holds the No. 20 pick in the first round of April's upcoming draft, however, McShay sees just one QB coming off the board in the first half of this mock (Kenny Pickett to the Washington Commanders). That would leave the Steelers with a great opportunity to go after Liberty's Malik Willis, who shined at the Senior Bowl.

McShay thinks Pittsburgh will trade up to No. 17 in exchange for a pair of later-round picks (including a third) to the Los Angeles Chargers. This allows the franchise to jump the QB-needy New Orleans Saints at No. 18.

Willis showed off his impressive physical toolset at the Senior Bowl after a standout junior campaign at Liberty. He tossed for 2,857 yards and 27 touchdowns last year, adding another score and 221 yards on the ground.

Pittsburgh needs to find the next face of its franchise, and Willis' combination of mobility and an elite arm make him the perfect fit to take over.

Currently, the Steelers hold +6500 odds (26th) to win Super Bowl 57 on FanDuel Sportsbook.
