Longtime Pittsburgh Steelers defensive coordinator Keith Butler announced his retirement over the weekend, leaving the franchise with an important piece to replace on Mike Tomlin's staff. Pittsburgh is clearly eager to replace the highly-successful Butler and has already requested an interview for his replacement.

NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported the news late on Sunday night.

Pittsburgh Steelers Patrick Graham

The Steelers put in a request to interview New York Giants defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, who spent the last two seasons with New York. It's unclear what will happen with the rest of New York's coaching staff after the Giants fired Joe Judge.

Graham previously spent the 2019 season as the Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator.

Butler's open position leaves some big shoes to fill for whoever ends up taking the job. Pittsburgh led the league in sacks each season since 2017 during Butler's tenure, including 55 from the 2021-22 campaign. Notably, T.J. Watt tied Michael Strahan's single-season sack record with 22.5 this year.

This is likely just the first of many interviews and Steelers fans will pay close addition to the process throughout the offseason.
