It's becoming a bit of a broken record, but the Seattle Seahawks defense is off to another atrocious start in 2021. In fact, after Thursday night's performance in which Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams sliced through Seattle's defense for nearly 500 yards, the Seahawks are on pace for an embarrassing NFL record.

Currently ranking dead last in total yards allowed, the Seahawks are on pace to give up 7,664 yards throughout this year's 17-game schedule. That would be good enough for a new NFL record, currently held by the 2012 New Orleans Saints (7,042 yards).

Seattle Seahawks News

Thursday Night Football marked the fourth consecutive game in which Seattle gave at least 450 total yards. It was their second-worst performance of the season after allowed 532 total yards to the Tennessee Titans during a Week 2 overtime contest.

It's been bad across the board, although the rush defense rates slightly worse than the secondary. Through five games, Seattle averages 145.2 yards allowed on the ground, the third-worst mark in the league. The secondary ranks with the fourth-worst mark in the league, allowing 305.6 yards per game through the air.

For Seattle fans looking for a bit of positive news, they can rest on the potential of the defense turning things around. That's exactly what happened last year, when Seattle finished the season giving up 350 yards or less in six of their final seven games. That included two contests below 300 yards and one holding their opponent to just 185 yards.
