NBA coaches continue to drop like flies, and Scott Brooks in Washington is just the latest victim. After failing to agree on a contract extension, the Wizards announced that Brooks would not be returning next season. Following a disappointing season that saw the Wizards sneak into the playoffs before being promptly eliminated by the Philadelphia 76ers, Washington is in a tough position.

They have two established stars that haven't equaled wins, with little young talent, minimal cap flexibility and the 15th pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. Translation – this is a tough job.

However, there will still be plenty of candidates happy to accept and Washington will surely do its due diligence in finding the best possible replacement, so let's take a look at three of them.

3. Terry Stotts

If anyone could get the most out of these two stars its Terry Stotts. He has a proven pedigree in doing so with a star point guard and shooting guard. As long as Stotts is given a long enough leash, it could turn into an attractive spot. Especially as this team showed some promise in the second half of the season, going from one of the NBA's worst teams to a playoff team.

2. Sam Cassell

Sam Cassell has been on the head coaching radar for a handful of teams for a while now, and Washington could be his first shot. A smart and talented point guard throughout his playing career, Cassell has spent a number of years on the bench of some of the NBA's best teams. He could be a great head coach for Russell Westbrook and also a viable leader and teacher for any new young guys that come to town. Cassell has long deserved a chance, and it would be great to see it happen with the Wizards.

1. Kenny Atkinson

Kenny Atkinson did wonders for the Brooklyn Nets, and then was replaced as soon as the stars came to town. He has been applauded for his player development skills and knows how to get the best out of his roster even if it's not the most talented. And while the Wizards don't exactly have the best long-term situation, they do have more talent than Atkinson's Nets teams ever did. He could be a great hire for both the current team with Beal and Westbrook and when the team decides it's time to rebuild.
