When Saquon Barkley was drafted, he was anointed as the next Barry Sanders, by both fans and his general manager. Barkley has been exceptional both on and off the field during his time with Big Blue, but he's yet to have that defining season that marks him in the history books.

Entering his third season in the NFL, Barkley is in his prime as a running back. Look what Christian McCaffrey just did in his third year for the Panthers, more than 1,300 yards rushing and 1,000 receiving. Barkley went for over 1,300 rushing in his rookie season, but only broke the 700-yard mark receiving. Although his numbers were down in year two, we know Saquon has the talent for this type of MVP output.

Saquon Barkley MVP Odds 2020

At +5500 on FanDuel Sportsbook right now, Saquon Barkley looks to be the ultimate long shot to win the MVP in 2020, but this outcome could be more possible than the odds perceive it to be. And if we learned anything from last year, it's that long shots can happen.

First off, the Giants have to be successful next season. The main reason CMC was not considered next to Lamar Jackson and Russell Wilson last year was that the Panthers finished 5-11. Second, they would have to remain a run-first team under new offensive coordinator Jason Garrett. If his tenure in Dallas has taught us anything, it's that Garrett likes to build around the run.

The main ingredient for any running back to win MVP involves the quarterback being less than spectacular though, so some of this may rely on the play of Daniel Jones. The second-year pro has had a history of turnovers in his young career, specifically fumbles. If Jones is uninspiring in 2020, but Barkley puts together a CMC-level season, leading the G-Men back to the playoffs, you'll start to wish you got on the Saquon for MVP train sooner.
