The New Orleans Saints' offseason of salary cap-cutting moves has left them with a few needs to address in the 2021 NFL Draft. One position New Orleans could target in the first round is cornerback following the departure of Janoris Jenkins.

The Saints have in fact been linked to a trade up for a cornerback in the first round, though it may not be the CB fans are hoping for.

Saints Caleb Farley Rumors

One pre-draft rumor suggests that New Orleans could trade up for Virginia Tech CB Caleb Farley in the first round of Thursday's draft. The Saints reportedly think they may need to get ahead of the Tennessee Titans (No. 22) in order to nab the corner.

Farley is surely a gifted prospect. He earned an 86.9 grade from ProFootballFocus during the 2019 season, when he registered 4 interceptions (including a pick-6) and 12 passes defended. However, he opted out of the 2020 season while dealing with a back injury. And he's had two surgeries since he last played in 2019.

Farley's size (6-foot-2, 207 pounds) and production in 2019 will still make him a late first-round or early second-round pick. But there's no reason for New Orleans to take the risk and even move up to get him.

If the Saints are willing to give up additional draft capital to move up, they should target near the top 10 for a shot at Patrick Surtain II or Jaycee Horn. They could also nab Greg Newsome II or Asante Samuel Jr. in the early to late 20s. Farley is too much of a gamble as a trade-up target.
