There's plenty of news out of New Orleans these days as the Saints clear cap space by any way possible ahead of free agency. The team is not only restructuring deals, but also re-signing players as they manage their books carefully before the new league year officially begins.

On Friday, it was revealed that New Orleans is close to reaching terms with another player for the 2023 campaign.

New Orleans Saints News

Tom Pelissero of NFL Networks reports the Saints are "closing in" on a multi-year extension with defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon. The 28-year-old is slated to hit free agency, but a contract agreement with New Orleans would prevent him from hitting the open market.

Kpassagnon is coming off a solid sixth season in the NFL. He recorded 2.0 sacks, 28 tackles and 6 QB hits in a rotational role for the Saints this past year. He's racked up 6.0 sacks across 23 appearances for New Orleans, nearly outpacing the 7.0 mark he posted in 61 games for his previous team, the Kansas City Chiefs.

The former Super Bowl champ is a nice depth piece on the Saints' defensive front. Making 34 career starts in six seasons, Kpassagnon is more than capable of stepping up if his number is called, too. With uncertainty surrounding the futures of Marcus Davenport and Cam Jordan, locking up Kpassagnon on a long-term deal makes a ton of sense.
