Running Backs the Chiefs Could Draft to Take Over for Damien Williams

Coming off their victory in Super Bowl LIV, the Kansas City Chiefs will be looking to improve their roster before the 2020 season. The Chiefs have picked up the option for running back Damien Williams, but they could make a bold move in the draft and take a running back to shore up the backfield.

Although no team has won back-to-back Super Bowls since the New England Patriots in 2004-05, the Chiefs' dynamic offense has made them the betting favorite. An upgrade with a star running back could make Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs' offense unstoppable. Here are three options that Kansas City could add in the 2020 NFL Draft.

1. D'Andre Swift

With the Chiefs picking at No. 32, they would be in a perfect spot to take Georgia running back D'Andre Swift if he makes it to the end of Round 1. Taking a running back early has gone out of fashion, but Swift's electrifying elusiveness could help break that trend. Swift is a talented runner and pass-catcher and he'd fit perfectly in the Chiefs' offense. If he's available at No. 32, the Chiefs must give Swift a look.

2. Cam Akers

If the Chiefs pass on a running back in the first round, they could take a look at Florida State product Cam Akers in the second or third round. Akers is a talented rusher who had two 1,000-yard seasons with the Seminoles despite running behind a below-average offensive line. Akers' burst off the line and ability to find the end zone (18 TDs in 2019) bodes well for his NFL career.

3. Zack Moss

Zack Moss flew under the radar for much of his career at Utah, but he made headlines in a big way as Utah became a playoff contender in 2019. Moss rushed for 1,416 yards last year and added 388 yards through the air. While he isn't the flashiest running back, he could be a great workhorse back for the Chiefs. If Moss is there at the end of the third round, he'd be an excellent addition to Kansas City's offense.
