Royals Prospect Earns Double-A Player of the Week Honors

Royals fans haven't read a lot of positive news about the team lately given Kansas City owns a 12-20 record in the 2022 season. They just have to look a little deeper, though, as the organization's No. 28 prospect Drew Parrish has been named a Double-A Player of the Week for his work on the mound.

Parrish was on fire for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals this past week, striking out nine hitters and allowing just two hits over the span of seven scoreless innings. He shut down the opposing team in order in five of the seven frames in what was the team's longest start by a pitcher this year.

The 24-year-old now owns a 4-1 record on the season to go along with a 2.13 ERA and 0.763 WHIP. He has also struck out 33 batters and walked only eight in 38.0 innings pitched. The southpaw has improved in every statistical category from last season despite facing some tougher competition.

After being drafted in the eighth round of the 2019 MLB Draft, it wouldn't be surprising to see Parrish work his way up to the Triple-A level before the end of the 2022 season. That would be a huge boost to a Royals' team in need of younger pitchers capable of coming up and making an impact in 2023.

For now, Kansas City will keep fighting to stay alive in the AL Central by winning one game at a time. The Royals currently have odds set at +4500 to earn the divisional crown and odds set at +25000 to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
