The Kansas City Royals have been one of the MLB's worst teams throughout the 2022 campaign. Their 27-47 record has them firmly in the AL Central's basement and they've shown few signs that they can turn things around any time soon.

Nobody knows how disappointing the Royals have been better than team owner John Sherman. The 67-year-old didn't hold back words when discussing the most frustrating part of the campaign with 610 Sports Radio host Josh Vernier on Thursday morning.

Sherman told Vernier that the most frustrating part of the disappointing 2022 season is that he thought the Royals "were further along and clearly we're not." The Royals owner added that the club needs to "look hard in the mirror and think about how we get better."

"I’m supportive, but I’m also pushing for the right changes. Dayton [Moore] and J.J. [Picollo] are guys with great baseball histories, and I expect them to be the architects of change and getting us on the right track."

Sherman has every right to be disappointed with how Kansas City's season has unfolded. Even though the Royals missed the playoffs for the sixth straight season last year, their 74 victories were their best total since 2017. Now, they're on pace for only 58 this season.

There also isn't just one reason as to why the Royals have failed this year. They're averaging just 3.82 runs scored this season (No. 27) while owning the third-worst ERA (4.99) in the majors. Having two bottom-five units on both sides of the ball is far from a recipe for success.

Even though the season is far from over, it's likely too late for the Royals to gain enough ground for a playoff push. At least fans have the 2022 MLB Draft to look forward to, where management can, hopefully, find more pieces to help turn the franchise around.
