Kansas City Royals pitcher Gabe Speier has spent the 2021 campaign tearing things up for Triple-A affiliate the Omaha Storm Chasers. However, after seeing some action in the majors during the 2019 and 2020 seasons, Speier will certainly have his sights sets on another call-up.
He could be well on his way there if he keeps making plays like this one on Tuesday.
Speier was on the mound when a St. Paul Saints hitter sent a line drive right behind him. He reacted in the blink of an eye, throwing his glove in the way and batting the ball down before getting the out at first. It was an incredble athletic display and one that's hard to even describe.
Speier has appeared in 14 games for the Storm Chasers this season, sporting a 1-0 record, 5 saves and a 0.59 ERA. He's allowed just 1 earned run across 15.1 innings pitched. With the way he's playing, it'd be no surprise to see him get some run for the Royals later this year.
