Cam Newton's free agency has been one of the biggest stories of the NFL offseason. There are plenty of theories swirling as to why he hasn't found a new home yet, but for the most part it's all speculation.

Someone who may have some insight, though, is Cam's former head coach Ron Rivera. Not only did Rivera coach Newton for years, but his new team is also the betting favorite to sign Newton.

Rivera doesn't seem to buy any rumors that Newton's asking price is too high, or that teams are worried he would be a distraction. Rivera believes uncertainty around Newton's health is the key issue.

I think that's probably the biggest thing, more than anything else. You've got to know. The foot and the shoulder will be the two biggest concerns everybody has.

This is a mix of good and bad news for Newton's situation. The positive is that this means some teams should be willing to give him a shot, and that if he proves he's healthy that he could earn a long-term deal in the future. With the injury worries, though, he may have to settle for a low-salary, short-term deal as a backup, which won't necessarily give him a chance to prove he's healthy.

Cam's going to be fighting an uphill battle to get another shot as a franchise quarterback this season, but the 2015 NFL MVP has certainly proven he has a huge ceiling when he's healthy.
