The Colorado Rockies gained a reliever but lost another one to the injured list on Sunday, as Alex Colome returned to the team but Lucas Gilbreath was placed on the 15-day IL.

Colome had been recovering from a forearm injury that sent him to the 15-day IL earlier this month, while Gilbreath is dealing with a left elbow flexor strain.

A 2016 All-Star who led MLB with 47 saves in 2017, Colome had been serving as Colorado's setup man for closer Daniel Bard prior to his injury. The 33-year-old right-hander has been struggling this month with a 24.00 ERA in August, so manager Bud Black may try to ease Colome back into action with lower-leverage innings.

Gilbreath has endured a rough second half as well with a 6.23 ERA since the All-Star break. With just over a month remaining in the regular season, Colorado may opt to shut down the 26-year-old southpaw rather than bring him back and risk re-injury during meaningless September games.

The Rockies are currently 20 games below .500 and in last place in the NL West, putting them on track for their fourth consecutive losing season and first last-place finish since 2015.
