The Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed TE Rob Gronkowski for a second season. The 31-year-old will remain a key target for Super Bowl MVP quarterback Tom Brady.

Gronkowski comes off a full 2020 season, catching 45 passes for 623 yards. The star tight end added 2 touchdown receptions in the Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. His Pro Football Focus overall grade in 2020 was 72.1, which ranked No. 12 in the NFL among qualified TEs.

But the contract he signed to stay in Tampa Bay was a surprisingly team-friendly deal.

Rob Gronkowski Contract

Gronkowski signed a one-year, $8 million contract with up to $2 million available in incentives. The contract pays out a guaranteed base salary of $1.75 million, and a guaranteed roster bonus of $6.25 million.

But the deal is structured in such a way that his cap charge in 2021 is only $3 million. For a player of Gronk's caliber, that's an absolute steal.

Bucs GM Jason Licht is going to need to keep getting creative with these contracts if he hopes to re-sign key players like Antonio Brown, Leonard Fournette and Ndamukong Suh.
