The Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals' rivalry was in full effect on Friday night. It's clear that the two divisional rivals don't like each other, especially considering how four Reds batters were hit by pitches in their 6-4 victory, including utility player Alex Blandino. Unfortunately, though, it looks like Blandino will miss some time with his latest injury update.
The Reds announced on Saturday that the team would be placing Blandino on the 10-day injured list. For those who might be optimistic, there's some bad news as his injury is being diagnosed as a broken right hand.
Alex Blandino Injury Update
While it's awful to see Blandino go down with an injury, sometimes time missed can be a blessing in disguise. After all, the 28-year-old was on pace to have his worst MLB campaign to date. So far, he has 4 doubles and 5 RBIs through 70 at-bats on the season. However, he's slashing a disappointing .200/.317/.257. Blandino has also made four appearances as a reliever, recording a 9.82 ERA and a single strikeout through 3.2 innings pitched.
One thing that will be interesting to see is how the Reds will respond to the Cardinals hitting their batters. Between the first two contests of their four-game series that began on Thursday, a total of seven Cincinnati batters have been hit by pitches.
Regardless, Blandino's injury is just one of many examples of the Reds having bad luck this season. They're currently 26-29 and trail the Chicago Cubs by 5.0 games for first place in the NL Central. The Reds also have the 2nd-worst odds to win their division at +1700, according to FanDuel Sportsbook
