The Boston Red Sox are clinging to their playoff lives heading into the weekend. With just 15 games left on their schedule, the Red Sox are 9.5 games out of an AL Wild Card spot, meaning it would take nothing short of a miracle for the defending World Series champions to make the 2019 MLB postseason.

Coming into their recent series with the New York Yankees, the Red Sox already looked to be a longshot to make the playoffs. And it's even worse now, as there's only one team left on the odds docket on FanDuel Sportsbook with worse odds to win the World Series. Teams are eliminated once they can no longer qualify for the postseason and with +9000 odds, the Sox could be next.

According to ESPN, the Red Sox have a 0.1 percent chance of making the playoffs, so needless to say, it's very likely a new World Series champ will be crowned come October.

Despite individual Red Sox players putting up big seasons, that wasn't enough to get them back into the playoffs.

While Red Sox bettors and fans alike have a glimmer of hope, it would take something we've never seen before for Boston to make the playoffs and go on another World Series run. But as the old saying goes, there's always next year.
