Red Sox Add Another Name to 2022 All-Star Roster

Major League Baseball officially revealed its 2022 All-Star Game rosters over the weekend. The Boston Red Sox learned that they would have two representatives at the festivities: third baseman Rafael Devers, as well as infielder Xander Bogaerts as a reserve.
However, it's since been revealed that the Red Sox will have a third player in Los Angeles: J.D. Martinez. This marks the fifth All-Star appearance of his career, as well as his fourth in five years since arriving in Boston.

Martinez will be filling in as Houston Astros DH Yordan Alvarez's replacement. The talented 25-year-old was placed on the 10-day injury list over the weekend with a hand issue, keeping him out of what would've been his first All-Star game.
Fortunately, the American League should be happy with Martinez as Alvarez's replacement. In addition to leading the AL with 29 doubles, the 34-year-old veteran has crushed nine home runs while tallying 38 RBIs over 76 games. He's also batting .313, which is his best average since 2018.
It'll be interesting to see if Martinez can finally be productive at the Midsummer Classic. He's only seen five at-bats in his previous appearances, recording one hit while striking out twice. Hopefully, his late addition to this year's game motivates him to show the world exactly what he can do.
The 2022 MLB All-Star Game takes place at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles, CA on Tuesday, July 19 at 8 p.m. ET.
