The 1 1/16 mile Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park was won by longshot Confidence Game (18/1) on Feb. 25. Jockey James Graham rode him to a 1-length victory and held off Red Route One along with upcoming Derby runners Reincarnate and Verifying.
James Graham has ridden Confidence Game in six of his seven starts. He'll be aboard the Candy Ride colt again in the 2023 Kentucky Derby. Graham is riding in his third Kentucky Derby since 2018 with a best finish of 10th. Trainer J. Keith Desormeaux brings his fourth colt to Louisville to Run for the Roses with a best finish of 2nd with Exaggerator (2016). Desormeaux purchased Confidence Game for a mere $25,000 at the 2021 Keeneland September yearling sale.
