Tampa Bay Rays catcher Mike Zunino left Tuesday's game against the Seattle Mariners after just one at-bat and in the fifth inning. Naturally, this gave Rays fans concerns and it was revealed Zunino suffered a biceps strain during his third inning strikeout.

Fortunately, the Rays avoided a bigger scare regarding their catcher's injury status.

Mike Zunino Injury Update

Manager Kevin Cash spoke to the media following the game, indicating that Zunino suffered this biceps strain. He did indicate this isn't an injury that would lead to an IL stint, citing the blowout score (7-0 Mariners) at the time as part of his thinking.

Rays News

Zunino's status is worth monitoring over the next few days, especially because catcher Francisco Mejia is on the COVID list.

A couple of days off could serve Zunino well as he's been struggling more than usual at the plate. The 10-year veteran is slashing just .083/.128/.111 across 39 plate appearances.

The Rays are also eager to turn around their slow start. Tampa Bay sits at just 9-8 on the year and now holds +400 odds to win the AL East on FanDuel Sportsbook.
