The 2021 NFL Draft is only a few weeks away and one prospect that seems to be going almost anywhere in first-round mock drafts is Northwestern offensive lineman Rashawn Slater. Slater spent three seasons with the Wildcats and is seen as a day one starter at the next level.
With that being said, here are three of the most likely teams to draft Slater.
Rashawn Slater Draft Projection
1. Detroit Lions (No. 7)
The Detroit Lions are sure to have a lot of talent to pick from at the No. 7 spot and Slater could be an intriguing target for them. They need to make sure new quarterback Jared Goff is protected in the pocket and Slater has the potential to be a long-term option at the tackle position. While this may not seem like a flashy top-10 pick, Slater has a lot of upside and the versatility to play all over the line.
2. Minnesota Vikings (No. 14)
The Minnesota Vikings lost multiple offensive line starters to free agency this offseason and cannot go into next season without a solid plan at the position. Drafting Slater could be one way to immediately improve the situation as he allowed just 4 hurries during the 2019 college football season before opting out in 2020. If Slater is still available at this spot, the Vikings would be smart to grab him.
3. Miami Dolphins (No. 18)
It is possible Slater falls in the first round and it would make sense for him to end up with the Miami Dolphins if that happens. Having Slater join this young, unproven offensive line would allow the group to mold and develop together over the next few seasons. Plus, one of Miami's top priorities should be making sure starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa can stay upright and healthy throughout the course of the season. This is the type of move that could help the Dolphins get back to the playoffs, and Miami has even been rumored to be interested in Slater at No. 6. If he's still there at No. 18, it's hard to see the Dolphins passing.
