The Philadelphia Eagles head into the fall with a roster full of players looking to prove that this is a playoff team. Head coach Nick Sirianni will need some athletes to step up and it looks like fourth-year defensive end Josh Sweat already is as he continues to dominate in Eagles training camp.

Josh Sweat Eagles

Sweat is a former 2018 fourth-round pick that has seemingly improved with each NFL season. In fact, he posted a career-high 6.0 sacks last season while only taking part in 38% of the Eagles' defensive snaps. Sweat also racked up 38 tackles and 3 forced fumbles in 2020.

Reports claim that the 24-year-old is making an impact on defense no matter who is guarding him along the line. Sweat has been constantly getting to the quarterback and making his presence felt in the backfield. That is a positive sign for a D-line looking to remain one of the best in the NFL.

All things considered, Sweat could give expected starter Derek Barnett a real run for his money if he keeps this up. Barnett is coming off a 2020 season in which he totaled 5.5 sacks and 16 quarterback hits. Philadelphia will likely split the snaps between the two edge rushers early on in the season.

Sweat remains a player to keep an eye on throughout the rest of the offseason as he could take this Eagles defense to another level if he reaches his full potential. For now, Philadelphia has odds set at +280 to make the playoffs, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
