Three weeks of the 2021 campaign are already in the books. If you've missed on some of those early-to-mid-round picks, it's still a bit too early to hit the panic button. But don't be afraid to cut ties with some injured players or some underwhelming late-round picks.
Week 4 Waiver Wire
You don't want to cut ties with high-upside players too early, but you also don't want duds hanging around taking up valuable bench space.
Fantasy Football Players to Drop
With that in mind, here are five players, all rostered in at least 50 percent of Yahoo! fantasy football leagues, that you can drop to make space for Week 4 wavier wire pickups.
1. Jonnu Smith, TE, New England Patriots
Jonnu Smith has yet to hit double-digit PPR fantasy points in a single game this season, averaging just 6.0 per. The concerns go way deeper than that, however. Smith ran a route on just 26% of the New England Patriots’ pass plays in Week 3, compared to 70% for Hunter Henry. The TE2 in an underwhelming passing attack is not a player you need on your fantasy roster.
2. Ronald Jones, RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ backfield is a mess for fantasy football purposes, but at least Ronald Jones has brought us a bit of clarity. Of course, that clarity comes from how poorly he has played and how far he has fallen in the coaching staff’s eyes. Jones has a total of 6.3 fantasy points through three games, and he’s only played even 20% of the Bucs’ offensive snaps once in three games this season. There’s no reason to keep Jones around on your bench.
3. Trevor Lawrence, QB, Jacksonville Jaguars
Trevor Lawrence is obviously still an exciting prospect despite the slow start to his NFL career, but being an exciting prospect doesn’t score fantasy points. There are 28 quarterbacks with more fantasy points than Lawrence’s 34.3 to start the season, and over half of those points came in Week 1 when he got a dreamy matchup with the Houston Texans. He’s dropped just 6.8 and 8.5 in his last two games, and that isn’t likely to get any better in the near future. Two of his next three opponents have top-10 defenses per Pro Football Focus’ grades.
